The present invention is related to the monitoring of contaminant emissions through a guyed balloon in the operation of flares; which are used in a general manner for discharging process gas currents or production fields in the oil industry. The system for monitoring contaminant emissions in flares of production fields of the present invention is formed by a guyed balloon, a gas flare, a sampling probe, a vacuum pumping system, an air sample distribution system, a system for chemically analyzing the air and a data acquisition system. The guyed balloon technique is based on the continuous measurement of the air quality, i.e., determining the concentration of the contaminants in the environment near the flame of the flare; considering its natural dispersion in the atmosphere. In a parallel manner, the system measures the main meteorological parameters incident in the atmospheric dispersion (direction and speed of the wind, relative humidity, temperature of the environment, barometric pr essure and solar radiation). This technique allows measured information to be obtained and then processed for estimating the rate of contaminant emissions of the flare.
