A method of manufacturing a composite beam (30) having a cross section J-shaped comprising an upper double-wing (32), connected to a lower single wing (34) by a central web (36), the method comprising the steps of: (A) producing a C-channel (38) forming a first composite charge on a first tool; (B) contacting a second flat composite charge with the C-channel produced in step (A) to form a laminate while said C-channel is supported on said first tool; (C) producing the lower single wing (34) at one end of the beam forming a first portion of the second flat composite charge on one end of the channel C as the channel C is supported by the first tool; (D) producing a second wing (40b) portion of the upper double-wing (32), at the other end of the beam forming a second portion of the second composite charge on a second tool (58) as said beam is supported between said first and said second tool; and (E) curing the laminate while the laminate is held between the first and the second tool.
