A method for prompting information when a game is charged based on a critical-point tackling progress and a charging system, which relate to the field of the Internet. The method comprises: recording preset charging progress nodes in a game and expenses corresponding to the charging progress nodes (S101); recording a deposit account associated with a user account (S102); detecting a critical-point tackling progress (S103); when the critical-point tackling progress reaches a charging progress node, subtracting an expense corresponding to the current charging progress node from the deposit account (S104); determining whether a balance of the deposit account is greater than an expense corresponding to a next charging progress node (S105); if yes, continuing transmitting game data (S106); and otherwise, stopping transmitting the game data, and pushing patent information to a content provider (S107). By means of the method and the system, a user can pay an expense according to a critical-point tackling progress, thereby improving the accuracy of expense payment; in another aspect, a game content provider is helped to control the degree of transmitting game data according to a deposit balance of the user; in addition, a product characteristic experienced by the content provider is combined with patent information, thereby maximizing the value created by an invention.
