A method for transmitting an unlocking key based on a critical-point tackling progress, and a charging system, which relate to the field of the Internet. The method comprises: recording preset charging progress nodes in a game and expenses corresponding to the charging progress nodes (S101); recording a deposit account associated with a user account (S102); detecting a critical-point tackling progress of a user (S103); when the critical-point tackling progress of the user reaches a charging progress node, subtracting an expense corresponding to the current charging node from the deposit account (S104); determining whether a balance of the deposit account is greater than an expense corresponding to a next charging progress node (S105); if yes, transmitting an unlocking key to unlock a critical point before the next charging progress node (S106); and otherwise, stopping the game (S107). In one aspect, a user can pay an expense according to a critical-point tackling progress, thereby improving the accuracy of expense payment; in another aspect, a game content provider is helped to automatically control, according to a deposit balance of the user, game content capable of being enjoyed by the user.
