The present invention is applicable to the technical field of wireless communications. Provided is a method for seeking an optimal relay position based on a step length threshold value mechanism. The steps thereof comprise: A, a mobile relay, at any position on a fixed-height plane of a test location, receiving a test signal from a source end, amplifying same and forwarding same to a destination end; B, the destination end calculating communication performance according to the received signal, generating single-bit information according to a result of comparison with the communication performance of a known optimal received signal, and feeding back same to the mobile relay; C, the mobile relay calculating a position of the next moment according to the single-bit information and moving thereto; and repeating A-C until an optimal relay position is found. By means of the present invention, an optimal relay position can be found within a global range by relying only on a positioning function of a mobile relay itself and single-bit information fed back by a destination end, without the need for knowing position information about a source end and a destination end, restrictions are reduced in comparison with a source end, a destination end and a mobile relay all needing to have a GPS function in an existing algorithm, and an applicable scenario is expanded.
