The present invention reports a method of producing complex guaianolides from the plant genus Thapsia. The invention comprises a temporary immersion bioreactor (TIB) and cultures conditions for mass micropropagation of Thapsia spp. The innovation is advantageous in that it can be used to produce large quantities of biomass of Thapsia spp while providing suitable conditions for said plant to produce significant amount of guaianolides, including but not restricted to thapsigargins. This process is a new production platform to supply these molecules of commercial interests at industrial level. At the same time, we also provide a micropropagation protocol of Thapsia via direct and indirect organogenesis as a conservation tool of this important medicinal plant.
