The techniques described herein generally provide an improved augmented reality system for providing augmented reality images that include preoperative images superimposed on a patient image. The accuracy of registering the pre-operative image on the patient image, and thus the quality of the augmented reality image, may be affected by the periodic movement of the organ. The registration of the preoperative image on the patient image can be improved by considering the movement of the organ. That is, the long-term motion that can be described by the dynamic model can be used to correct registration errors that do not match the dynamic model. These techniques may generate a sequence of 3-D patient images in real-time for the delivered surgery.
