The present invention relates to a method for screening an epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent, and to a kit for screening an epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent, wherein the kit includes a means for measuring an activity of a potassium channel, Kv4.1, in a nerve cell expressing the potassium channel, Kv4.1. The method comprises the steps of: treating an epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent candidate material on a nerve cell expressing a potassium channel, Kv4.1; measuring an activity or an expression amount of the potassium channel, Kv4.1, in a nerve cell treated by the epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent candidate material in the previous step; and determining the corresponding epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent candidate material as an epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent when the activity or the expression amount of the potassium channel, Kv4.1, measured in the previous step increases more than a control group nerve cell which is not treated by an epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent candidate material. Moreover, the present invention relates to a method for inspecting an effect of an epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent by measuring an activity or an expression amount of a potassium channel, Kv4.1, in a nerve cell expressing the potassium channel, Kv4.1, and to an effect inspection kit including a means for measuring an activity of a potassium channel, Kv4.1, in a nerve cell expressing the potassium channel, Kv4.1. The potassium channel, Kv4.1, of the present invention has independently adjusted activity and expression with respect to an epileptic or cognitive impairment symptom irrespective of another Kv4 channel, so a new epileptic or cognitive impairment treating agent can be screened by measuring the same.
