The digital magazine server creates a cover page that identifies relevant content items associated with the user. A candidate feed of an item of content is identified from various sources, and a cluster of items of content is generated from an item of content contained in various candidate feeds. Content items in the various clusters are scored, and one or more items of content are selected from each cluster. The selected item of content is placed in a consolidated feed, which is used to create a cover page for viewing by a user of the digital magazine server. One or more ads are included in the candidate feed, and the digital magazine server specifies a location within the cover page that provides an item of content associated with the candidate feed containing the advertisement.
