The present invention relates to a method for simultaneous production of hydrogen and ethanol using high-efficiency recombinant E. coli strain and glucose for the simultaneous production of hydrogen and ethanol. In the present invention, These mutants enable the cell growth in the anaerobic condition and the simultaneous production of hydrogen and ethanol by the overexpression of the enzymes in the adaptive evolution or rate step of these mutants. The recombinant E. coli according to the present invention simultaneously produced hydrogen and ethanol with high efficiency from fermentation using glucose. The maximum yields of hydrogen and ethanol from glucose were about 1.7 and 1.4 mol / mol, respectively. The yield of ethanol production was at least 70% higher than that of wild strains.
