Methods and apparatus relating to instant performance tuning techniques for solid state storage devices are described. In one embodiment, the controller logic controls access to one or more non-volatile memory devices. The controller logic causes a change in one or more of the one or more non-volatile memory devices, a bus connecting the one or more non-volatile memory devices to the controller logic, and a change in one or more operating frequencies of the controller logic. In addition, the controller logic may cause a change in the operating frequency in response to the command. It is also possible to change the power limit to scale the performance of the solid state storage device based on system capabilities. Other embodiments are also disclosed and claimed.
