A method for increasing the thermo - mechanical stability of a metal - ceramic - substrate (4), which is a metallization (6) with a thickness of ≧ 100 μm to a substrate (5) or a layer of a ceramic material,wherein according to any application of the metallization (6) edges (10) which, between the metallization (6) and the substrate (5) or of the layer to occur, by means of application of an electrically insulating filling material (8) on the edges (10) are covered,the filling material (8) on either the metal - ceramic - substrate (4) and then applied by hot isostatic pressing in the edges (10) and is solidified or pressed as a viscous mass in the case of a first ambient pressure on the metal - ceramic - substrate (4) is applied, by increasing the ambient pressure in the edges (10) is pressed in and is then compacted.
