A process for making a wet rubber masterbatch uses a single screw extruder. The single screw extruder includes a screw and an outer cylinder in which a slit extending along the longitudinal direction of the outer cylinder (the screw shank direction) is formed in an inner wall surface of the outer cylinder, and when the width of the slit is represented by A and the clearance between a tip of the screw and the inner wall surface of the outer cylinder is represented by B, the following expression (1) is satisfied: 0 AB (Y) / AB (X) 0.9 (1) where AB (Y) is the product of A and B is on a downstream side along the screw shank direction of the outer cylinder, and AB (X) is the product of A and B on an upstream side along the screw shank direction of the outer cylinder.
