A friction-based operation feel feedback input device (10) calculates the magnitude of a frictional force on the basis of a predetermined force curve using coordinate corresponding to the angle of rotation of a rotary operation unit (12). The force curve has a valley corresponding to each reference position such that segments on the right and left sides of the reference position ascend from the reference position. For example, when coordinate of the angle of rotation is located in an ascending interval to the right of the reference position (YES in step S300) and the angle of rotation is reduced to be less than the preceding angle by a predetermined angle (¸ ¸old - ”¸) (YES in step S302), the coordinate of the angle of rotation is shifted to those of the closest left reference position (step S304). Consequently, the magnitude of a frictional force can be changed to a value (minimum value) in the valley of the force curve, thus avoiding waste.
