PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved methods for obtaining populations of neural progenitor cells and differentiated neurons from pluripotent stem cells.SOLUTION: The present invention provides a differentiated cell population cultured in vitro, in which at least 30% of MAP-2 positive cells is progeny of primate pluripotent stem (pPS) cell lineage, and has one or more of following characteristics: it expresses tyrosine hydroxylase; and it releases dopamine upon activation.SELECTED DRAWING: None
