PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive agent for coating material that can be composed of only natural materials, a method for improving fixing property of a coating film using the additive agent, and a method for producing a coating film.SOLUTION: There is provided an additive agent for coating material, wherein the additive agent is a water-soluble additive agent that is used by adding to a coating material to be applied on a solid surface to form a coating film, and the additive agent comprises, as a main component, a composition composed of (A) alginate, (B) curdlan, and (C) alkali metal carbonate. It is preferable to use a solid alkaline salt (Kansui) as a material to supply the (C) alkali metal carbonate.
