The present invention relates to biodegradable multiphase compositions comprising a continuous phase consisting of a matrix of at least one starch incompatible rigid hydrophobic polymer and a homogeneously dispersed nanoparticulate starch phase having average dimensions of less than 0.25 µm. The compositions are characterized by breaking load, young modulus and breaking energy.
