A process for the determination of cross-leakages in a coke oven battery is disclosed. More particularly, the present invention is directed to providing a quantitative process for the determination of cross-leakage based on combustion product analysis. For the determination of cross-leakage, gas samples from the chimney base are collected using standard probe with special attachments, both during heating-off and heating-on conditions which are successfully analyzed for all the batteries. These values are used in an equation developed using stoichiometric calculations to arrive at the percentage cross-leakage from respective points. The method of the present invention would thus favour early detection of cross-leakage as a pre-requisite for timely preventive action, formulating maintenance strategies, minimizing downtime of coke oven plant/batteiies and decide on timing of capital expenditure towards replacement of affected equipments with prospects of wide application in industry.
