The invention relates to a process for preparing a film-forming collagen composition to be applied in agricultural treatments. According to the invention, the process comprises the thermal treatment of untanned leather fragments with 60...80% volatile matter and a dermal substance content of at least 90%, at a pH of 5.5...6, in three temperature stages, within the interval 70...95°C, at a solid : liquid ratio of 1:2, wherefrom the gelatin fractions are collected as gelatin solution to be concentrated under vacuum, at a temperature of 60...80°C, up to a dry matter content of at least 5%, after which it is mixed with 15...35% glycerol, reticulated with 10...20% vegetable tanning material extract, possibly additivated with 10...30% collagen hydrolysate or keratin, and stirred at 400...700 rpm, for 1...2h, at a temperature of 40...70°C, resulting in a film-forming composition with a nitrogen content of at least 15%.
