A SYSTEM FOR SCANNING OF EARTH'S SELF-POTENTIAL FIELD

The present invention provides a system for scanning of earth's Self-Potential field in a fully automated manner under PC based software which controls and displays the color shaded images in a short time of less than a minute in the field itself. The data of each scan is stored in the computer in a transparent manner with automatic naming of the data file. Data can be displayed numerically in matrix form with one to one mapping with the electrode placement. Data can also be displayed in profile form (ID) and image (2D) form. Stacking of data is incorporated to improve signal to noise ratio by a factor of 10, effectively acting as a low pass filter to suppress noise due to power lines and high frequency part of telluric currents. Fast scanning features of the system addresses the interference effect of telluric currents in frequency band less than few Hz where SP induced is more pronounced as compared to higher frequencies. The scanning can be repeated at user selected interval to monitor the variations in the subsurface fluid flow patterns. This system can also be used to monitor the levels of C02 relevant for carbon sequestration activity and mapping the effectiveness of enhancement processes associated with oil recovery in Oil Well Fields.
