A reflection-type midair image formation element (10) in which flat-plate-shaped optical elements (1), (2) in which a plurality of transparent substrates (25) having reflecting surfaces (4) parallel to a thickness direction are provided in parallel via an adhesive (3) in the direction perpendicular to the reflecting surfaces (4) are superposed in the thickness direction, and the reflecting surfaces (4) of the optical element (1) and the reflecting surfaces (4) of the optical element (2) are orthogonal, wherein a transparent coating film (30) is provided on exposed surfaces of the optical elements (1), (2).
