A method for refining radio frequency communication link quality in a communication system may include obtaining measured beam pair quality data between one or more transmit beams and one or more receive beams during a measurement time interval. Beam pair quality data may be measured using an antenna array in which each antenna has a weight. A combination of antenna weights defines an antenna array configuration or beam. The method may further include, during a communication time interval following the measurement time interval, adjusting an antenna weight combination in response to the measured beam pair quality data and a previous antenna array configuration, to define a next antenna array configuration. A transmitter and receiver may communicate information using the next antenna array configuration during the communication time interval.
