UNICELLULAR ALGAE STRAIN MALLOMONAS KALINAE - A PRODUCER OF THE CAROTINOID FUCOXANTHIN

The invention relates to microbiology and biotechnology.The unicellular algae strain Mallomonas kalinae SX-1 VKPM AI-23, a producer of fucoxanthin, a carotenoid having antioxidant activity, has been deposited at the Federally Funded Institution GosNIIgenetica, the National Bioresource Center of the Russian National Collection of Industrial Microorganisms, of the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science under registration number VKPM AI-23. The strain Mallomonas kalinae SX-1 VKPM AI-23 enables the production of high concentrations of fucoxanthin; the strain is not finicky in respect of cultivation conditions and is capable of growing in media having low salt concentrations.
