According to one aspect of the present invention, an automatic interpretation and translation system using phonetic symbol-based dictionary similarity search, comprises: a sentence input unit for receiving a sentence in a form of voice or text from an external voice recognition system and an external text input system; an unregistered word detection unit for analyzing morphemes and separating words of the input sentence, and searching for a similar word to detect an unregistered word; a phonetic symbol converting unit for converting the detected unregistered word into a phonetic symbol; a similar phonetic symbol search unit for searching for a similar phonetic symbol using the converted phonetic symbol as a key value, and selecting a vocabulary of the searched similar phonetic symbol as a target word; a translation performing unit for translating the input sentence using the selected target word; and an output unit for outputting the translated result.
