There is provided a method and system having a pilot signal and an uplink control structure with minimum signal overhead for providing channel estimation and data demodulation in a wireless communication network. The uplink control architecture allows the mobile terminal to communicate with a corresponding base station to obtain an initial system access, to submit a bandwidth request, to trigger a continuation of the negotiated service, or to provide a proposed allocation reconfiguration header And performs various functions including the above. A dedicated random access channel is provided for establishing a communication connection between the base station and the mobile terminal so that the mobile terminal can select the random access signaling identification. The resource request is received at the base station to uplink the resource information from the mobile terminal and the initial access information request is received from the mobile terminal to configure the base station connection. The pilot signal changing the density configuration is provided to include a low density symbol pattern for a plurality of neighboring resource blocks and a high density symbol pattern for a single resource block.
