The invention relates to a method for autonomous or semi-autonomous maneuvering of a motor vehicle (1), in which a first object (14) in an environment (7) of the motor vehicle (1) is detected by a sensor system (3) of the motor vehicle (1) in that a target area (13) for the motor vehicle (1), which is delimited by the first object (14), is determined on the basis of the recognized first object (14) and the motor vehicle (1) is autonomously or semi-autonomously connected to the target area (13 ) is maneuvered, wherein during the maneuvering of the motor vehicle (1) is checked whether a second object (19) in the environment (7) of the motor vehicle (1), wherein a tolerance range (20) is determined which the first object (14) at least partially surrounds and on the basis of the tolerance range (20) within the target area (13) a detection range (22) is determined, is checked during the maneuvering of the motor vehicle (1) only in the detection area (22), whether in this the second object (19) is located.
