A system according to the present disclosure includes a lane boundary module, a vehicle trajectory module, an intersection locator module, a lane keeping module, and a driver alert module. The lane boundary module is configured to determine a lane boundary within which a vehicle is moving. The vehicle trajectory module is configured to predict a trajectory of the vehicle. The intersection locator module is configured to determine the M positions of M intersections between the vehicle trajectory and the lane boundary at M times, where M is an integer greater than one. The lane keeping module is configured to identify a possible lane departure based on the M positions. The driver alert module is configured to activate a driver alert device that warns the driver when a possible lane departure is identified.
