The device (1) has a case (3) electrically connected to a preheating plug (2). A case management module (5) is connected to the preheating plug by a control line (6) and a diagnosis line (7). The management module sends a control signal to the preheating plug and to the case to control the preheating plug, and sends a diagnosis signal based on operating condition of the preheating plug. The diagnosis signal carries information distinguishing normal operation from defect identified among multiple predetermined defects.
