To provide a charger of a lithium ion secondary battery which enables the optimization of a lithium ion movement resistance and a charge capacity, and a method for charging/discharging a lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: A charger of a lithium ion secondary battery having positive and negative electrodes and an electrolyte solution encased in a battery case comprises electrode-shape changing means for physically changing the shape of at least one electrode of the positive and negative electrodes so as to at least partially widen gaps formed in the electrode, which allows the electrolyte solution to permeate the electrode when charging or discharging the lithium ion secondary battery and restoring the physical change of the electrode shape after having charged or discharged the lithium ion secondary battery.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
