To provide methods and compositions for treating demyelination and/or dysmyelination and/or promoting remyelination of neurons and/or preventing the development of myelin-related diseases.SOLUTION: A composition comprises: a) pharmaceutical grade water; b) at least one processing enhancer; and c) gold nanocrystals suspended in the water forming a suspension. The gold nanocrystals is configured to i) have multiple surfaces, where the surfaces include characteristics of (1) not having organic chemical constituents adhering or attached to the surfaces and/or (2) being substantially clean and not having chemical constituents adhering or attached to the surfaces, other than water or the processing enhancer, that alter functionality of the nanocrystals.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 37B
