Surgical cutting and stapling end effectors. Various embodiments include a channel configured to operably support a removable staple cartridge. A rotating end effector drive shaft is supported in the channel and configured to longitudinally move the firing assembly within the end effector to cause the sled to eject the surgical staples from the staple cartridge. The firing assembly is prevented from moving distally through the channel as long as the surgical staple cartridge having a thread in the starting position is not seated in the channel.
