The present invention provides a method for synthesizing halichondrin macrolide or its analogs by a cyclization reaction strategy. The strategy of the present invention involves subjecting the intermediate to Prince reaction conditions to obtain a macrolide. The present invention also provides a compound useful as an intermediate in the synthesis of halichondrin macrolide or an analog thereof and a method for producing the same. [Selection figure] None
