PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavated character material decryption system that enhances precision of decryption by making good use of a database of character materials.SOLUTION: A first device 100 comprises: first transmission means of transmitting a character image 102 selected by first selection means to a second device 200; first reception means of receiving a plurality of retrieval result images that character recognition retrieval means retrieves; second selection means of selecting a corresponding image out of the retrieval result images; and second transmission means of transmitting the result of selection by the second selection means to the second device. The second device consists of: second reception means of receiving a character image; character recognition retrieval means of retrieving a plurality of similar character images from data holding means; third transmission means of transmitting the retrieval resu third reception means of receiving the transmitted selection resu and data storage means of relating and saving, as a new character image, the result transmitted by the second transmission means and the character image selected by the first selection means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
