The present invention relates to features for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, batteries which optionally employ a vertically aligned carbon nanotube framework. Fabrication methods and a solid polymer electrolyte are described for three-dimensional battery architectures using vertically aligned carbon nanotubes. Composite coatings of poly (ethylene oxide) bis (azide) and graphene poly (lactic acid) are also described for use in such batteries or others.
