The invention relates to a cerclage pessary containing progesterone distributed homogeneously in the body of the pessary, providing prolonged, sustained and continuous release of said progesterone for a period of at least six months, where the pessary is formed from dimethylsiloxane elastomers with an RTV (room temperature vulcanisation) mechanism, the quantity of progesterone is between 20% and 30% p/p, in relation to the weight of the pessary, and the proportions of the polymers forming the matrix are between 6:1 and 14:1. The cerclage pessary can be used to prevent premature birth. The progesterone diffuses continuously through the polymer, without altering the shape and integrity of the pessary, since the elastomer forming the polymer matrix used in the present invention is not biodegradable. This ensures that the shape of the pessary is kept intact until the end of the treatment.
