This transport vehicle (2), in particular a railway carriage, comprises at least one passenger compartment (6), comprising a number of seats (10) for passengers, and a device for lighting the passenger compartment (6), said device comprising: at least one light source (16) fastened to the inside of the passenger compartment (6), and a control unit (27) connected to the light source (16). The lighting device comprises at least one light sensor (22) connected to the control unit (27) and able to provide a measurement signal of the light intensity in the passenger compartment (6), and the control unit (27) is able to control each light source (16) as a function of the signal provided by each light sensor (22). The lighting device comprises, for each seat (10), a presence sensor (24), connected to the control unit (27), and a light source (16), and the control unit (27) is able to control each light source (16) as a function of a passenger absence or presence signal provided by each presence sensor (24).
