The cartridge (74a, b) includes a heater (14) configured to vaporize a pre-vapor formulation that is communicated to the heater (14) by a wick (28). The insert (1002a, b) is positioned in at least a portion of an air passage (9) within cartridge (74a, b), where the insert (1002a, b) is configured to allow vapor that is generated by the heater (14) to pass through the insert (1002a, b) prior to being discharged from the cartridge (74a, b).
