According to an aspect of the present invention, provided is a method for controlling a monitoring device including a plurality of light emission units (sources) and a plurality of light reception units (detectors), the method comprising the steps of: allowing the plurality of light emission units to generate light signals sequentially and in a mutually exclusive manner according to a time division scheme; and by referring to a distance between an m-th light emission unit for generating a light signal to be measured from among the plurality of light emission units and an n-th light reception unit for detecting a light signal to be measured from among the plurality of light reception units, dynamically controlling a measurement circuit gain used by the n-th light reception unit to detect the light signal generated by the m-th light emission unit.
