The invention relates to a method for controlling a power electronic circuit having a multiplicity of power modules (11). According to the invention, each power module to has its own driver circuit (49) by means of which the power module can be driven. A state variable is detected from each power module by means of a dedicated sensor element (25a). The driver circuit is controlled via a processor (P), wherein the processor calculates state data which is relevant to the control of the driver circuit (49) from the state variable from the sensor (25a). In this way, a modular structure of a power circuit which comprises a plurality of modules (11) can advantageously be operated by means of the processor (P). The invention further relates to a power electronic circuit which permits the described operating method, and to a computer program product having program instructions for carrying out the method, and to a providing device for such a computer program product.
