In this thesis a number of time domain simulation algorithms for switched networks are presented.; With modified nodal formulation, a new integration routine based on the Chebyshev series is presented. A special purpose time-domain transient simulator is developed that features this integration routine and a novel constant-step, variable-order error control algorithm. A comparison of this approach with that based on the inverse Laplace transform is given.; A new algorithm for analyzing switched networks with smooth non-linearity within the state-space framework is presented. Focus has been placed not only on obtaining high speed but also on achieving a very high degree of accuracy. A set of highly efficient computer algorithms have been incorporated into a computer program PECS to achieve these objectives. Examples run, which include a PFC (power factor correction) circuit containing a multiplier/divider element, have shown over an order of magnitude speed advantage over other leading approaches.; A number of algorithms for accelerated steady state simulation for switched networks are implemented in conjunction with PECS. Several typical power conversion circuits are simulated to compare these algorithms on a common basis. The analytic Newton's method is found to be most effective when the analytic Jacobian is available. When the analytic Jacobian is not available, the following methods give competitive performance: the Skelboe's method and the Broyden's method with two initial numerically determined Jacobians.
