An applicator and method for guiding a first web to a base web in a non-linear pattern as the base web advances in a machine direction. The applicator may include a support structure, a cantilever arm, a guide roller, and a connection link. The cantilevered arm can be supported by a support structure and is movable through a range of movement relative to the support structure in a cross machine direction. The guide rollers can guide the first web onto the base web and can be pivotally mounted on the cantilever arms for axial pivotal movement of the guide rollers relative to the cantilever arms. The connecting link can be operatively connected to the guide roller. The axial rotational movement of the guide rollers may depend on the movement of the connecting link. The positioning of the guide rollers in the cross machine direction may depend on the movement of the cantilever arms.
