The present invention relates to a composition for detecting a nucleic acid comprising a carbon dot and a nucleic acid detection method using the same. The carbon dot of the present invention has a size of several nanometers to several micrometers and is cationic to combine with a nucleic acid material by electrostatic attraction to form a precipitate. Thus, the nucleic acid detection method of the present invention can be applied to various applications for targeting nucleic acid materials, thereby quickly and simply diagnosing a disease when used in the medical field, and being favorably used in the field of health care, such as health monitoring, pregnancy-related tests.
