The present invention relates to a skin external preparation composition for alleviating atopy containing an extract of Stichopus japonicus red as an active component. The skin external preparation composition inhibits the expression of inflammatory markers causing atopic dermatitis and the expression of metalloprotease (MMPs) genes related to skin regeneration, thereby having an effect of alleviating atopic symptoms. Therefore, the skin external preparation composition can be used as a cosmetic skin external preparation or a pharmaceutical skin external preparation.
