The present invention provides a novel strain of the genus Acinetobacter KFCC11687P which utilizes methyl acetate as a single carbon source. The strain KFCC11687P, which is a novel strain of the genus Acinetobacterium, has a carboxyl esterase activity, thereby decomposing methyl acetate in the culture broth into acetic acid and methanol and simultaneously using it as a carbon source of methyl acetate. According to the present invention, the novel strain of the genus Ashentanobacter KFCC11687P can easily and economically decompose methyl acetate, which is a by-product of chemical processes, through a biological method.
