The present invention relates to a gas mask having a safety protection device and a safety control method. The gas mask comprises: a mask main body which is closely attached to the worker′s face in a state of covering the mouth and nose of a worker and has a suction coupling unit formed on the front side thereof; a purification filter which is installed in the suction coupling unit and purifies contaminated air; and a finish cover which is installed at an end part of the suction coupling unit. In addition, the gas mask includes a safety module which is installed between the purification filter and the breathing hole of the suction coupling unit and has an alarm unit reading the abnormality of the purification function of the purification filter and transmitting a signal to a worker when an error occurs. Accordingly, the safety module has an effect of preventing the loss of life due to suffocation since a worker performing work in a confined space is able to detect the abnormality of the purification function of the purification filter and prepare for an emergency situation by transmitting an alarm signal directly to the worker or being connected to an external management server.
