The invention relates to a method of estimating the shape of a dynamic object (16) and tracking that object (16) based on provided object data and an expectation maximization algorithm. It is envisaged that the shape of the object (16) is approximated as a polygonal shape (40) and each corner (# 5, ..., # 8) and / or page (# 1, ..., # 4) of the polygonal shape (40) by means of a Kalman filter, which is set up to process implicit measurement functions, from which object data a coordinate point required for the description of the polygonal shape (40) is assigned. The invention further relates to a corresponding computer program product, a use of the method and a corresponding system (14) for estimating the shape of a dynamic object (16) and for tracking this object (16).
