Active engine room ventilation systems and control logic for operating active hood ventilation

Active engine compartment ventilation systems, methods of making and using these systems, and vehicles having active engine room ventilation and control logic for operating the ventilation openings are disclosed. A method is disclosed for controlling the operation of an active venting device coupled to a vent in an engine hood of a motor vehicle. The method includes a vehicle controller that determines whether there is a calibrated vehicle bleed condition and whether a calibrated vehicle speed condition exists. In response to determining that the calibrated vehicle bleed condition exists, the controller instructs the active bleed apparatus to transition to an open state thereby opening the vent and allowing the bleed fluid to flow. Conversely, in response to the presence of the calibrated vehicle speed condition, the controller instructs the active venting device to enter a closed state to thereby block the vent and restrict the flow of venting fluid.
