The invention relates to a method of determining, by means of an electronic data processing device, the maximum discharge current IMAX applicable to a lithium-ion cell at a given temperature, from a plurality of discharge curves ( Di) of the cell at said temperature and under separate discharge currents (IREFi) lower than the IMAX current, this process comprising the following steps: a) for each discharge curve (Di), determine a voltage value UMIN corresponding to a first local minimum of the discharge curve; b) determining, by extrapolation from the plurality of UMIN values determined in step a), a continuous function f representative of the evolution of the UMIN value as a function of the discharge current at said temperature; and c) determine the IMAX current from the function f.
