The invention relates to a car brake moving along with the elevator car, and engaging in a prong-like manner with the braking surface on a guide rail of the elevator car and/or counterweight to brake against the braking surface, the brake comprising: a base part (1); a braking piece (2) movably supported on the base part, which braking piece is configured to be moved between a braking position and a releasing position; a spring (5), with the spring force of which the braking piece (2) can be dropped from the initial position of the drop-out movement into the braking position. According to the invention the brake comprises a movable support member (3, 20) for limiting the initial position of the drop-out movement of the braking piece (2); and the brake comprises a controllable actuator (11), which is mechanically connected to the aforementioned support member (3) and configured to displace the initial position of the drop-out movement of the braking piece with respect to the braking position.
