The invention relates to a process for preparing automotive shredder fibre residue pellets, wherein fibrous automotive shredder residue having a bulk density of 150 kg/m3 or less that comprises at least one thermoplastic fraction is compacted to a bulk density of 250 to 1000 kg/m3 in a pellet mill at temperatures below the melt temperature of the thermoplastic fraction, wherein the fibrous automotive shredder residue is fed to the pellet mill and forced through a die plate with a plurality of die bores having a diameter in the range of 4 to 10 mm and a length over diameter ratio in the range of 4 to 10. The invention also relates to the use of a pellet mill for this purpose, to the pellets so obtained, and to the use of the pellets for incineration and or mechanical recycling.
